Teaching requires a commitment to professionalism. The professional practice standard of professionalism is an integral part of the field of education because it holds teachers accountable for acting in a professional manner and adhering to the idea of continuous learning Professionalism is demonstrated through appropriate, effective communication and collaboration with the school community, implementing practices gleaned from professional growth opportunities in the classroom, and seeking and working towards goals to become more effective teachers. Teachers must act professionally when dealing with students, parents, and colleagues. Students who are treated with respect are more likely to be engaged in learning. Parents want to know the teachers in charge of their children are exemplars of ethical behavior. Fostering professional relationships and environments with colleagues creates a positive atmosphere.
